The Education Licence "Catch"

The most important thing to know is that your Canva for Education account is a non-commercial grant. Canva provides these premium features for free specifically to support classroom learning. Their terms of service generally state that work created on an Education account should be for educational, non-commercial purposes.

If you use that free educator access to create a product for Mash, you are technically using a "charitable" licence for personal profit, which can put your account (and your shop) at risk.
 

How to Stay Safe and Professional

To keep your shop above board, most teacher-authors follow these "golden rules":

• Switch Accounts: It is best to have a separate Personal Pro or Free account for your business. This ensures your commercial work is clearly separated from your school work.
• The "Original Design" Rule: You cannot simply take a piece of Canva clip art, put it on a page, and sell it. You must combine elements, fonts, and layouts to create something brand new.
• Flatten Your Files: When you download your resource as a PDF, the individual images must be "locked" so that buyers cannot extract or steal the original graphics. This protects both you and the artists who created the elements.

While it is tempting to use the free Education features, it is much safer to invest in a Canva Pro subscription for your business. This gives you a clear commercial licence and total peace of mind.
